RE: Investing In Rental Properties

my wife and I own 9 rental homes since 1999. I don't think "pleasurable" is the way I would word it. this is a business, with ups and downs, rewards and challenges.
we do find it to be rewarding financially, without too much work. (although on occassion....)
I also own another "full time" business, and my wife works 2 part time jobs. the rentals are the easiest of the bunch.

RE: traveling through the mt. carmel tunnel in Utah

short answer, yes you will need an escort. the zion's national park website has all the info on purchase (must be done in advance ) price, proceedure, etc. we did this just last september and really enjoyed the drive through the tunnel.

RE: Anyone seen this toy hauler ?

YC 1 ,
those show up on the forums from time to time. some of the manufacturers available are swivelwheel, from fast master products, inc, and smart trailers, inc., motorcyclecarriers.net, and some others.

RE: Tool-less Binder Style Wheel Chocks - Build Your Own Thread

hey, those look almost exactly like mine, except that I just put eye bolts through the wooden wedge and then hook the load binder through the eye.

RE: She's right and so am I.....

Skip writes,"-it's time to trade in the old horse and get a new tow vehicle."
sheesh. I was just getting over the shock of not seeing your red pickup in your signature line, and now this? :)
guess I'm just not keeping up.

RE: stripes on truck tires

thanks everyone for the replies. never thought of the tire theft issue, but it makes sense. I was leaning towards the rotation check theory, but the tires I've seen this way were too few and far between for this to make much sense.

RE: stripes on truck tires

no, this is spray painted onto the tire. kinda like they're trying to make the rotation of the tire more visible or something. only see it once in a while, but have seen it pretty much all my life, on occasion.

stripes on truck tires

I sometimes see stripes or wedges painted on truck tires, radiating out from the hub. never have been able to figure out why someone would do this, and, if it is useful, why it is not done to all tires?

RE: Ridding acreage of goat heads

sorry to take so long getting back to you, but yes krovar is what passes these days for a sterilant, killing everything.
I use this on the one acre gravel parking lot surrounding my RV barn, and I would prefer that nothing ever grow there again. ever. the products that used to be available to achieve this are no longer on the market (insert tree hugger rant/kudos here depending on your point of view)so I have no choice but to re-apply the krovar every few years from now on.

RE: Ridding acreage of goat heads

I used dupont Krovar. about 8 lbs to the acre. I was told application in two successive years should stop goatheads for two more subsequent years. since it needs to be washed into the soil, and is a pre-emergent, I put it on in march just before a rain and before anything sprouted.
last year was my first application, and I was very pleased with the results. only had to spot apply in a couple of places all last summer. I am eager to see how the second application works for the next couple of years

haven't thought of him for a while, but after his little boating accident I was inspired to change the nickname of a leaky ramcharger I owned to "mopar valdez"

RE: Camp Fire In A Can / Propane Version

I bought a firedancer brand last year because of forest service fire restrictions. I love it. I get approx. 20 hours from a 20 lb propane tank.
I used to ridicule this sort of artificial camping accessory, but I found that I now prefer the ease of the propane fireplace to dragging firewood to the hills , extra water to put out the fires, etc.
also, after dark, mine looks more like a real fire than I had expected it to.

RE: Traveling with Liquid O2 Reservoir

mile high,
I suspect that anyone handy enough to fabricate a rear bracket could probably tie it into the frame rails under your trailer.
as for scaring people, just decorate the tank like r2-d2, and you may end up with a fan club.:)
(when my father had to use the large liqued ox tanks, we called them his r2-d2 units)

when I added shocks to my tt, the ride and handling improved somewhat.
the suprise for me was how much more stable the trailer was when parked.

RE: Traveling with Liquid O2 Reservoir

saw an rv in nevada once that had a sturdy steel bracket on the rear, near the ladder, in which they had bolted a large liquid oxygen tank. reminded me of something like a fire extinguisher bracket, only much larger and heavier.
although I'm sure this was a custome built item, there wasn't a lot of material involved, so maybe not too expensive.
p.s. welcome to the forums.
